As the days grow shorter and the year winds down, many of us begin to anticipate what’s coming: family gatherings, work evaluations, financial pressures, and the emotional weight of closing out another year. For Black women especially, this anticipation often comes with anxiety—our bodies bracing for stress before it even arrives.
This month’s Holding Space is devoted to tending to ourselves in transition. Together, we will:
Name how anticipatory stress and anxiety show up in our bodies and emotions.
Explore practices to calm the nervous system and create space for ease.
Reimagine year-end transitions with boundaries, clarity, and joy.
Ground in community and collective compassion.
What to Expect
Guided grounding and reflection practice
Conversation on anticipatory stress & the unique pressures Black women face in seasonal shifts
Tools for nervous system care: breath, boundaries, and joy rituals
Journal prompts for tending to anxiety before it spirals
Closing ritual of affirmation and release
Who This Space is For
This space centers Black women navigating the weight of transitions—seasonal, cultural, and emotional. All who wish to engage with care and respect are welcome.

Donation-Based Offering
We offer donation-based registration because we believe healing spaces should be accessible to all. While Eventbrite requires a minimum donation of $1, we gently encourage a contribution of at least $5 if you're able—this helps sustain the care and intention behind these gatherings. If cost is a barrier, please don’t hesitate to reach out; you’re welcome here, no matter what.
Facilitator: Philicia Ross, LCSW-C
Philicia Ross (she/they) is a licensed clinical social worker, mental wellness educator, and the founder of Village of Sound Mind—a virtual mental health and healing space centering Black women, femmes, and communities of color.
Philicia’s work is rooted in anti-oppressive care, narrative therapy, and liberation-focused practice. She facilitates spaces that are emotionally honest, culturally grounded, and intentionally soft. Drawing from her lived experience as a Black woman navigating chronic illness and systemic harm, Philicia holds space for others to come home to themselves without apology.
She created the Holding Space series to offer a consistent, community-based circle where participants can pause, assess what’s no longer aligned, and gently move toward their truth.
When she’s not facilitating or providing care, Philicia is dreaming up new ways to rest, disrupt, and build with intention.
